sola Scriptura - Scripture Alone

So I have started a new book over the last couple months - yes it has taken me that long to just start it. It is "Foundations of the Christian Faith" by James Montgomery Boice. So far I have made it to the middle of the fourth chapter, so I thought I would give you all some bullets of what I found interesting and challenging. Chapter 4 is on the authority of the scriptures. 1. The Bible is the Word of God. As Boice puts it, "it is the direct 'breathing-out' of God".
2. God not only spoke to create the Bible he continues to speak to us through the Bible. Martin Luther expressed his view on this at the Diet of Worms when he said, "My conscience has been taken captive by the Word of God." Further more, Boice tells us that the scriptures are the voice of a living God not just a book of revealed truths or a collection of books.
3. Sola Scriptura means Scripture alone and was basically the motto or "battle cry" during the reformation. What they really meant was that an individual can have a relationship with Jesus Christ with out having to go through the Church, the Pope, or a Priest.
4. Scriptura sui ipsius interpres - scripture is its own interpreter - the scriptures can and will interpret themselves to the faithful.
5. The Bible Changes us.
6.The Holy Spirit who speaks through the Bible directs its students to Jesus: Jn 15:26
a. The themes of the Old Testament point to Jesus by fitting in with its general themes and fulfilling specific prophecies found there.

Boice ends with this.

To know God we must be taught from the Bible by the Holy Spirit. It is only then that a full awareness of the nature of the Bible and its authority is borne home upon our minds and hearts, and we find ourselves taking a firm stand upon the cherished revelation.

Interesting stuff - I feel challenged already to pour myself into the reading of Gods word.
